I’m Jason, co-founder of 40 North Finances, along with my wife Daravy. We each have a passion for personal finance and financial freedom.
I grew up in a middle-class family in the Midwest USA, where I discovered my knack for business and entrepreneurship at a young age. With a degree in marketing, I ventured into the automotive industry before transitioning to online marketing. Alongside my corporate job, I pursued affiliate marketing and paid off my mortgage in just 11 years.
Inspired by figures like Anthony Bourdain, Tim Ferris, and Jim Collins, along with numerous travel Youtubers, I embarked on a journey to achieve financial independence and retire early (FIRE). Through aggressive saving and disciplined investing, I achieved FIRE at 39, enabling me to travel the world and pursue my passions.
I believe in designing the lifestyle you want and achieving financial freedom through saving, side-hustles, and smart investing. I prioritize experiences over material possessions and despise wasting money. Travel and freedom are my status symbols of choice.
At 40 North Finances, we share practical money-making and saving tips that have worked for us, along with occasional travel-related advice. While we’re not financial advisors, our content aims to inspire and empower readers to build wealth and live life on their terms.

Hi, I’m Daravy, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to our website, where my husband Jason and I share how we achieved financial freedom and early retirement.
As a Cambodian native, my upbringing in a small business family taught me valuable lessons in bargaining and profit-making from a young age. Saving and investing were ingrained in our culture, and I began setting aside money from childhood gifts, later funding my own education through scholarships and strategic investments.
After completing my studies in Environment and Human Geography, I embarked on a career path focused on financial empowerment. My experience with an Australian company in Cambodia sharpened my financial management skills and reinforced the importance of saving and investing.
Inspired by Warren Buffett’s philosophy, I adopted a lifestyle of living below my means and prioritizing savings for emergencies, investments, and travel.
For me, travel is not just a luxury but an essential part of life’s experiences. Despite the challenges of travel from a third-world country, I’ve embraced the opportunity to explore the world and expand my horizons.
At 39, I retired early and moved to the USA with Jason, and now, through this blog, we’re sharing our insights and tips on saving, investing, and achieving financial independence.
